Jeffrey A. Joerres is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Manpower Inc. He joined Manpower in 1993 as Vice President of Marketing where he was responsible for the company's overall marketing strategy. He later served as Senior Vice President of European Operations and Global Account Management. In 1999 he was promoted to President and CEO, and in 2001 he was named Chairman of the Board.
Under Joerres' leadership, Manpower has transformed its business strategy, adding new business lines that have expanded the company's ability to assist clients and candidates in navigating the changing world of work. Manpower is known as the industry thought leader and a pioneer in emerging markets, helping governments, multinationals and individuals to succeed in transforming their labor markets to compete in the global economy. It has opened more than 1,000 local offices under Joerres' tenure, expanding the footprint of the organization to over 4,400 offices across 80 countries and territories.
Since Joerres took the helm nine years ago, Manpower stock has more than tripled and the company has climbed the ranks of the Fortune 500 list, moving from 183 to 120. Manpower's steady stock performance and strict adherence to governance guidelines both contributed to Manpower being named as one of the "Best Managed Companies in America" for the fifth time in 2007 by Forbes magazine. Fortune magazine named Manpower as one of the most admired companies in the staffing industry for the fifth year in a row. In addition, Joerres was named to Institutional Investor Magazine's celebrated list of the best CEOs in America for the fourth consecutive year in 2007.
Prior to joining Manpower, Joerres was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for ARI Network Services, a publicly held, high-tech electronic data interchange company. He has also held several management positions within IBM.
Joerres earned a bachelor's degree from Marquette University's College of Business Administration in 1983. In addition to the Manpower Inc. board, he is a member of the board of directors of Artisan Funds and Johnson Controls.
Joerres is known as a strong proponent of job training and workforce development initiatives. Joerres also serves on the board of trustees for the Committee for Economic Development (CED). He is co-chair of the CEO Diversity Committee of the Greater Milwaukee Committee. He also served as co-chair of the 2005 NAACP National Convention held in Milwaukee.
Mike Van Handel Executive Vice President & CFO
Mike Van Handel has overall responsibility for worldwide finance and accounting functions, including corporate finance, internal/external financial reporting, accounting controls and income taxes. He also manages investor relations.
Van Handel joined Manpower in 1989 as Director of Internal Audit, and in 1993 was named Vice President of International Accounting. In 1995 Van Handel became Chief Accounting Officer and Treasurer, and in 1998 he became Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In 2002, Van Handel was named Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
Prior to Manpower, Van Handel served as Audit Manager at Arthur Andersen & Co., where he worked with a number of large public multinational companies, including Manpower. Van Handel graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Accounting from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He also holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Wisconsin.
Van Handel is a member of the Board of Directors for the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Van Handel is on the Board of Harris Bank, their Audit Committee and Risk Oversight Committee.
Barbara J. Beck Executive Vice President, President - EMEA
Barbara J. Beck is President of Manpower's EMEA operations, a position she has held since January 2006. In this position, she is responsible for overseeing Europe (excluding France), the Middle East and Africa.
The EMEA region is the largest business unit within Manpower, generating over $7 Billion in revenues (39% of total corporate revenues) with 11,000 employees across 30 countries.
Beck's previous role as Executive Vice President of U.S. and Canada from 2002 through 2005, required her to oversee all aspects of Manpower's $3 billion North American business unit, which included over 1,100 field offices and employed over half a million temporary employees within both the staffing and professional industry sectors. Under Beck's tenure, profits grew over 140%.
A strong advocate of women's issues, Beck is a member of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government's Women's Leadership Board, dedicated to advancing women globally through leadership, advocacy and dialogue on public policy. In 2007, she also joined the World Economic Forum's Women Leaders Programme, dedicated to establishing strategies that address women's issues on a global basis. Beck was named a founding member of Catalyst Europe's Board of Advisors. When based in the US, she was also appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin to the statewide initiative dedicated to advancing the status of women in the public and private sectors.
Beck received her Bachelor of Science degree with honors from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1982 and has completed executive leadership programs at INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France; the University of Chicago and the Yale School of Management. An expert on the impact of employment trends on global economies, Beck has been a featured speaker at numerous economic forums, including the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Prior to joining Manpower in 2002, Beck was an area vice president and general manager of United States - West for Sprint, a $23 billion global communications company. Her 15-year tenure at Sprint included leadership of technical sales and applications engineering, business development, customer service, operations, technical support and programme management.
Darryl Green Executive Vice President, President - Asia Pacific
Darryl Green is the Executive Vice President for Manpower Inc. and President of the company's Asia and Pacific operations, a position he obtained in May 2007. Prior to joining Manpower, Green served as CEO of Tata Teleservices, India's fastest growing telecom operator, where revenues tripled and market share doubled during his tenure, which began in 2005. Previously, Green was CEO of Vodafone Japan, a publicly listed mobile services provider, where earnings more than doubled and revenues grew to US$15 billion during his three years at the helm. From 1989 to 1998, Green held various management positions within AT&T, including three years as President and CEO of its Japanese operations.
Green holds an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and a BA in Japanese/Asian studies from Brigham Young University. He is an American national who speaks fluent Japanese. He has served as the Vice Chairman of the Japan Telecommunications Association and as a member of the Mizuho Financial Group's advisory board.
Françoise Gri Executive Vice President, President - France
Françoise Gri joined Manpower in February of 2007 as president of Manpower France. France is the company's largest single market with over $6 billion in revenues in 2006, more than a third of the company's total revenues.
As president of Manpower France, Gri leads an organization of nearly 5,000 employees, across more than 1,100 offices, serving over 90,000 clients each year.
In 2007, Gri was ranked 37th on Fortune's 50 Most Powerful Women in Business International. This marks her third consecutive year on the list.
Prior to joining the company, Gri worked for IBM where she was president and director general of its France and North Africa division.
During her 26-year tenure with IBM, she held various leadership roles including: regional general manager of France, Belgium and Luxembourg; vice president of marketing and channels software for IBM EMEA; and executive of e-business solutions for IBM EMEA. A graduate of ENSIMAG in Grenoble, France, Gri also holds a number of leadership positions in business and academic circles.
Jonas Prising Executive Vice President, President - U.S. & Canadian Operations
Jonas Prising was named Executive Vice President, President of North America in January 2006. In this role, Prising oversees all aspects of Manpower's $3 billion U.S. and Canadian business unit, which includes nearly 1,000 field offices that employ more than a half million permanent, temporary and contract employees. Prising joined Manpower in 1999 and has served as Managing Director of Manpower Italy, where he increased revenue by more than 50%, and Director of Manpower Global Accounts EMEA.
Before joining Manpower, Prising worked for Electrolux, a Swedish multinational. During his 10-year tenure with Electrolux, he held various international positions within the consumer goods and business-to-business divisions, including: Regional Manager for Asia Pacific; Managing Director of Sales Companies; and finally Head of Global Sales & Marketing for one of its business-to-business divisions.
Prising holds an MBA from the Stockholm School of Economics and speaks five languages: English, French, German, Swedish and Italian. He and his family reside in Milwaukee, Wis.
Owen Sullivan Executive Vice President, CEO of Right Management and Jefferson Wells
Owen Sullivan is the Executive Vice President of Manpower Inc., CEO of Right Management, and CEO of Jefferson Wells.
In 2003 Mr. Sullivan joined Manpower Inc as Executive Vice President and CEO of its professional services subsidiary, Jefferson Wells, which specializes in Internal Audit, Finance & Accounting, Tax and Technology Risk Management. In 2004 he assumed the additional responsibility of CEO of another Manpower subsidiary, Right Management - a global provider of integrated talent management solutions. In 2007, he also assumed leadership of Manpower's Global Sales Group.
Prior to his tenure with Manpower and its' subsidiaries, he served as President of Metavante's (the former M&I Data Systems) Financial Services Group as well as President of their Enterprise Solutions Group during his 8 years with the firm. He also owned his own strategic planning, executive mentoring and consulting firm Sullivan Advisors, LLC. Before joining Metavante, Mr. Sullivan spent 14 years with IBM in several sales, sales management, and product management positions. Currently, he serves on various Boards of Directors including Ministry HealthCare, and Children's Hospital and Health System, Inc., and Journal Communications.
He is a native of Boston, Massachusetts, a graduate of Marquette University and has completed several advanced Business Management Programs through Harvard Business School and the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University.
David Arkless Senior Vice President, Global Corporate Affairs
David Arkless was named Manpower Inc. Senior Vice President of Global Corporate Affairs in 2004 and is a member of the company's Executive Management Team. In his role, Arkless is responsible for Governmental and International Affairs, as well as various strategic relationships with high-profile organizations such as the World Economic Forum, the Centre for European Policy Studies, the European Policy Centre, the U.S. Departments of State and Labor, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of China and the government of Shanghai.
Arkless joined Manpower in 1992 as company Vice-President and served in the Global Marketing and Strategic Services divisions before founding The Empower Group, a global consulting subsidiary of Manpower Inc., in 1999.
Arkless serves as board member of both the International Organization for Migration and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, and was named Special Envoy of the End Human Trafficking Now! movement. Arkless was also appointed to the advisory board of UNODC with his main responsibility being a core advisor on the Private Sector Panel of UN.GIFT, the recently launched global initiative to fight Human Trafficking.
Prior to joining Manpower, Arkless worked in various international assignments for Hewlett-Packard and subsequently established his own consulting company, Caden Corporation, which delivered both strategic and project implementation programs for corporations like ABB and Rolls-Royce NEI.
Rick Davidson Senior Vice President, Global Chief Information Officer
As Senior Vice President and Global Chief Information Officer, Rick Davidson has overall responsibility for leading global IT functions across Manpower's operations in 80 countries and territories. He is in charge of developing and deploying an information technology strategy that accelerates Manpower's positioning as the technology leader in the workforce solutions industry. He joined the company in January of 2003.
Prior to Manpower, Davidson worked at the Feld Group, where he was the acting Global CIO for Manpower through a consulting agreement. Prior to joining the Feld Group, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at CNH Global N.V. (formerly Case IH). Davidson also worked for Haworth, Inc., a global furniture manufacturer, as Vice President of Global Information Services. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University.
Ken C. Hunt Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer
Ken C. Hunt was named Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer for Manpower Inc. in December 2007.
In this role, Hunt serves as the company's General Counsel and is responsible for Manpower's overall legal plan and structure, as well as corporate governance and securities.
Prior to joining the company, Hunt has been associated with Manpower for over 25 years, serving as the company's outside counsel. During that time, he was a shareholder, member of the Corporate Law Practice Group, member of the Management Committee for Godfrey & Kahn, S.C., Manpower's primary law firm.
Hunt is a member of the Business Law Section and the Taxation Section of the American Bar Association. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the Corporate, Mergers & Acquisitions and Securities Law categories. He also has served as an instructor on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin Law School, for several years teaching a course on corporate acquisitions and restructuring.
Hunt was admitted to practice law in 1976. He graduated with distinction from the Duke University Law School where he served as editor of the Duke Law Journal. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan.
Tammy Johns is Sr. Vice President of Workforce Strategy. In this role, she has responsibility for anticipating the changing dynamics of labor markets and creating innovative services and solutions that will attract, develop and engage talent and help our clients win in the marketplace. The main focus of this work centers on creating strategies in the areas of talent acquisition and management.
From 2002-2006, Johns served as Sr. Vice President of Global Sales where she had overall responsibility for developing and deploying Manpower's strategic direction for our largest global customers. With her account teams, Johns developed strategies and plans designed to ensure total customer satisfaction and continuous improvement of Manpower's account integration and relationships. She joined Manpower in 1992 as Country Manager for Canada, and remained as Chairman of Canadian Operations until 2002.
Johns has more than 20 years of experience in the staffing industry spanning both the private and public sector. Prior positions include 7 years as owner of a staffing company and three years of private sector human resource management. Johns holds an MBA from The Richard Ivey Business School and a Canadian Certified Human Resource Professional designation.
Mara Swan Senior Vice President, Global Human Resources
Mara Swan joined Manpower Inc. as Senior Vice President of Global Human Resources in 2005. She is responsible for the company's overall HR strategy for its full-time, contract and contingent workforces across 80 countries and territories. In addition, she leads the development of leadership within the Manpower group of companies.
A veteran of the human resources profession, Swan joins Manpower from the Molson Coors Brewing Company where she served as Chief People Officer for its global operations. Prior to her tenure with Molson Coors, she was Human Resources Manager for Miller Brewing Company.
Swan holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Buffalo and a master's degree in industrial relations from the University of Minnesota.
Emma van Rooyen Vice President - Global Marketing
Emma van Rooyen was named Vice President of Global Marketing for Manpower Inc. in January 2008.
In this role, van Rooyen oversees branding, advertising, direct and online marketing, events, market research, public and media relations across the Manpower portfolio of brands, playing a key role in refining and executing on the company's global business expansion strategy.
Prior to joining the company, van Rooyen was a Principal at the global management consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton, where she led Global Commercial Services Marketing and then Global Government Marketing from 2002 to early 2008. Van Rooyen was the marketing lead on a program that Harvard Business Review nominated as one of the top 20 new business ideas in 2005.
Van Rooyen has a deep background in business-to-business and professional services marketing at leading global organizations. Prior to Booz Allen Hamilton, van Rooyen served as a Global Director of Marketing at Deloitte Consulting LLP and Marketing Director in the Technology, Information, Communications and Entertainment Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Van Rooyen, a native of South Africa, holds an MBA in Strategy and International Business from the Open University Business School, London, U.K., and a BA in English and Philosophy from the University of South Africa.
