    Community Economic Development Officer

    What is the job?
    - Implementation of the community economic development initiatives aimed at building long term capacity and fostering the integration of the Nation's economic, social and environmental objectives
    - Planning, developing and implementing economic opportunities in collaboration with Michipicoten's economic development corporation, government, private industry, municipalities, and First Nation partners
    - Maintaining a sound administrative and organizational system
    - Developing budgets and cash flow projections
    - Working with governments, funding agencies, local industry, and local businesses to develop and implement initiatives to enhance community and economic growth

    What do you bring?
    - Degree in community development, business, commerce, economics, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    - Experience working with First Nations; Knowledge of Indigenous Rights, history, culture, and current socioeconomic issues
    - Minimum of five years' experience in community or economic development
    - Three years' experience in a management or supervisory role
    - Experience in venture development
    - PMP Certification an asset

    What is the job?
    Responsible for planning, creating, developing, and implementing an education strategy that support the work plan for delivering a range of cultural initiatives (activities, programs, projects) for the retention of Anishinaabemowin language, Anishinaabe traditional and cultural practices within the MFN community
    Work collaboratively with the Health and Social Services team to develop programs that enhances the Nation's our wellness, well-being and the quality of life
    Responsible for planning, developing and implementing the Nation's elementary, secondary and post-secondary education programs and services, including efficient utilization of the funding.
    Prepares monthly reports for the Executive Officer regarding all aspects of the department's functions. and operations, highlighting both achievements and areas of concern

    What do you bring?
    Bachelor's Degree in an Indigenous education-related discipline
    In-depth knowledge and experience with Anishinaabe culture, traditions, customs and protocols
    Minimum 5 years of experience working in an education setting serving an Anishinaabe community; including the development, implementation, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of education programs and services
    Experience in collaborative program planning including a range of government and non-government stakeholders, conducting research, data analysis and strategic planning

    Must be able to work independently as well as with a team in a fast-paced environment

    The Role:
    * identify and establish new relationships and explore business and funding opportunities.
    * oversee all operations of the Nation through the development and maintenance of policies and procedures and through the supervision of the Director of Operations who is charged with the day-to-day operations of the Nation.
    * Research, analyze and assist in developing new and expanded business initiatives; Build and maintain partnerships with citizen entrepreneurs, government and industry; act as a Director for Michipicoten's economic development corporations.
    * Ensure internal budgets and financial controls are in place and all operations are in compliance with Michipicoten, provincial and federal government financial legislation, policies and procedures; direct the management of the Nation's financial and business assets.
    * Orientation of new Councillors, attend all Council meetings; prepare reports, agendas, motions, and Band Council Resolutions (BCR's), coordinate information and resources for Council and Citizens.
    * May be delegated to represent the Nation at local, regional, territorial and national meetings from time to time; Ensure council directives/motions and BCR's are followed up in a timely, efficient and professional manner
    * Responsible for ensuring the Vision and Strategic Plan approved by Council are implemented in an efficient and effective manner and through the Director of Operations that staff are current and up-to-date on the Direction of Council to carry out the appropriate elements of the Vision and Strategic Plan as designated and assigned.
    * Leads the development, revisions, implementation and monitoring the effectiveness of all policies and procedures. Responsible for community and governance development plans.
    * Develop positive relationships with Michipicoten First Nation citizens. Manage concerns surrounding the maintenance in the community and development of capital projects.
    * Delegate and oversee By-Law enforcement. Monitor the effectiveness of emergency, crisis and dispute resolution services.
    * Direct supervision of Consultants, Director of Operations, and Executive Assistant of Michipicoten First Nation

    You Bring:
    * Cultural awareness, sensitivity, understanding of Indigenous culture and Michipicoten history
    * A Bachelor's degree in Business, Administration, Finance or an equivalent related field
    * Minimum 5 years of Executive and business development experience
    * Minimum 5 years of leadership and supervising in a senior management role
    * Extensive experience working with/assisting Councils or Board of Directors
    * Proficient knowledge in the areas of finance, human resources, First Nation governance and relevant legislation, northern culture, political environment and program management, delivery, and evaluation
