Crew Leader

$15.00 per hour


The individual considered for this position will be assisting in the daily operation of the Traveling Work Crew for the local Michigan Works! West Central's Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth Program. The traveling work crew will complete community based work projects at local non-profit organizations and in the park systems. The person chosen for this position will coordinate with the Talent Specialist on a daily basis; contact non-profit agencies to find and set up within the local community; and will lead and supervise youth crew members that are 18-24 years of age. Must be able to build rapport with youth and trust with the work sites. This position will assist youth with maintaining accurate time sheets and submitting them in a timely manner. Hours per week may vary but will be between 24-32 hours and will be paid through Manpower.


* Meet youth at designated meeting location and drive to work site.

* Assist youth with submitting time sheets to Talent Specialist in a timely manner.

* Communicate to youth and work sites regarding the work plan for the day.

* Work collaboratively with Talent Specialist to set up work sites at nonprofit businesses and park systems.

* Mentor youth and model a responsible work ethic.

* Supervise youth while they complete basic maintenance, painting, landscaping, grounds keeping and outdoor work.

* Follow the processes and procedures as defined by different work sites.

* Assist with facilitating participation in required workshops and talent tours to local businesses.

Work closely with employers, job seekers, partners and visitors.


- Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent.

- Experience in working with community, public and non-profit organizations.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, staff, employers, partners, on-site supervisors, the general public and appropriate state agencies, keeping customer satisfaction as a guiding factor.

- Work history with demonstrated success in taking initiative, follow through, professionalism, problem solving and teamwork. .

- Consistently provide a good example of appearance, work ethic and customer service to youth served-

- Able to work with diverse population.

- Interpersonal skills necessary to work with customers, staff, employers, on-site supervisors, and the general public.


- Minimum: One to three years of experience.

- Must be dependable and have a clean driving record. Chauffeur's license required.
