Job Description


The Engineering Technician is responsible for assisting engineers in running tests, calibrating testing equipment, modifying PC boards under test, and conducting and documenting test information. The role also requires the ability to operate general laboratory equipment such as solder stations, wire strippers, high density connectors, board components and common hand tools on a daily basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Responsible for rework, testing, and routine maintenance of electrical drive systems and test equipment

* Responsible for analysis, rework testing, and routine maintenance of electrical drive systems and test equipment

* Installs and checks experimental and operational electrical machinery, equipment, circuitry, and components according to established procedures and specifications

* Documents daily operation activities and records tools and materials inventory

* Maintain lab tools and equipment including calibration

* Assembles, tests, and modifies experimental operational electrical drives, electrical circuitry, and components according to engineering specifications

* Diagnoses causes of malfunctions or failures and performs preliminary analysis

* Records data; recommends modification or replacement of failed components

Critical Competencies

* Experience with power electronics testing preferred

* Proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.

* Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job

* Previous experience with calibrating equipment

* Experience with conducting test

* Ability to read and use schematics to connect test equipment and to do modifications

* Strong technical background is required to troubleshoot

* Use of judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions as to the failure mode of the product.

* Requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

* Must have good communication and computer skills.

* Must be self-directed and able to work well in a team environment.

* Must have basic understanding and usage of mechanical gauging equipment and electrical test equipment

* Ability to use light shop tools like drilling holes, cutting materials, and screwing assemblies together

* Experience and knowledge of inspection techniques, tools, materials, and equipment

* Microsoft Excel, Access, and Outlook experience required

Education and Experience Requirements

* High school diploma, Associate Degree in electrical/electronics technology,

* 3-5 years of related technician experience

* Extensive experience with rework and soldering SMT components on high density boards
