GIS Intern

Role and Responsibilities

Coordinate the development and documentation of fiber optic projects, provisioning and budget quotes in accordance with guidelines mandated by corporate and regulatory agencies. Maintain fiber optic Smallworld database for projects, Missouri One-Call, member and foreign pole attachments, cooperatives, investor owned and municipal aerial and underground plant. Monitor final documentation for closing project. Administers database management of construction projects.

* Interpret plans and monitor for deficiencies during construction. Monitor project file of all project parameters and documentation throughout the construction process.

* Recommends construction routes based on virtual and coop GIS maps.

* Provide budget estimates of construction, material and labor for marketing and bid projects.

* Maintain GIS database for fiber infrastructure, splicing, underground location boundaries for Mo-One Call, coop boundaries, tax districts and environmental areas. Maintain database for Missouri One Call and provide updated documentation to underground location company (USIC) every 2 weeks. Maintain database on fiber location, right of way and landowner issues.

* Coordinate provisioning of splice diagrams to Intranet for SMT and contract fiber technicians.

* Coordinate utility crossing and pole attachment permits database.

* Responsible to keep management informed on job progress/areas of concern.

* Estimate contractual requirements for routes/splicing

* Estimate co-op cost database

* Estimate co-op fiber used for FSmi calculation and dark fiber and distance to be used for FSmi calculation (by others)

* Damage documentation and cost corrections for submission to Accounting for creating an invoice.

* One Call Dig-Up Review, documentation from USIC and filed documentation.

* Facilitate Easement documentation and recording with Project Coordinators.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in GIS database, mapping or construction management field and a working knowledge of GIS/Smallworld preferred. Working knowledge of fiber optic construction procedures and regulations in the utility and/or telecommunications industry required.
