Job Description

PRIMARY DUTY

Under the direct supervision of the Logistics Manager - International, this position is responsible for the day-to-day management of the logistics function, ensuring cost effectiveness and timely management of domestic and international carriers, using approved vendors. It is anticipated that, in performing the assigned duties, the Logistics Specialist will regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance to the management or general business operations of the Company.



TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Others may be assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign tasks/responsibilities to this job at any time.



* Supports warehouses, supply chain and customer service department with coordination and communication in reference to the transportation of shipments from vendors to warehouses in a timely and cost effective manner.

* Acts as liaison of special and large projects between vendors, warehouses and carriers.

* Prepares and distributes cost analysis of shipment projects when requested and makes recommendations to management.

* Manages rate agreements for domestic carriers and updates truck carrier's matrix.

* Maintains delivery schedules and communicates with all relevant departments.

* Supports warehouses to decide on best choice of carriers for domestic and international shipments by meeting carrier agreements.

* Supports claims coordination for shortages/damages and all associated incidental expenses against vendors, carriers and 3PL companies.

* Analyzes freight audit reports, actions billing discrepancies and reports to Finance.

* Collaborates with Customs brokers and Forwarders to expedite and clear shipments in a timely manner.

* Coordinates freight pick up from vendors to warehouses.

* Facilitates transportation cost and rates to sales, customer service, supply chain planners and management.

* Resolves issues and discrepancies related to Customs brokerage at the borders.

* Coordinates booking with overseas offices and resolves booking issues with Ocean carriers and with forwarders.

* Assists Management in contract negotiations.

* Performs other related duties as required and assigned.



KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.



* Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) required

* Knowledge of JD Edwards or similar ERP system strongly preferred

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

* Ability to work and interact with employees at various organizational levels.

* Detail oriented.

* Able to work independently with minimal supervision.



EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE



* Associate's degree in business or related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.

* At least 1 year of related experience and/or training in Logistics/Supply Chain required; 2 or more years preferred.

* Prior experience and/or knowledge of import/export procedures and transportation of hazardous materials a plus.
