Job Description

On a daily basis you will:

* Lead and/or contribute to designing, prototyping, and testing mechanical components, subassemblies, and packaged laser solutions in support of new product development.

* Create drawings and work with machinists and other team members on early prototypes to validate your design.

* Utilize both photonics and mechanical engineering principles to meet product requirements.

* Document new designs by entering BOM and design data into Agile PLM system.

Other important duties:

* Participate in all concept, preliminary, and critical design reviews of the Engineering Department.

* Drive the adoption of best practices related to design for manufacturing to assist in the transition of photonics prototypes to production.

* Assist with regulatory compliance for new products as it relates to mechanical characteristics such as shock and vibration.

* Support production by designing test fixtures and writing incoming inspection procedures.

* Write test reports for prototype, first article, and design verification tests.

What you bring:

* BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering-background in Physics or other Engineering disciplines will also be considered if coupled with substantial experience in Mechanical Engineering.

* Minimum 7 or more years' experience in laser precision mechanical and/or opto-mechanical engineering, with experience in design for test (DFT) and manufacturing (DFM), including experience at a supervisory level.

* Demonstrated experience in opto-mechanical design, structural mechanics, vacuum systems, thermal analysis, and cooling technologies.

* Experience leading and managing engineering projects from conception to implementation.

* Strong knowledge of various fabrication techniques (machining, extrusion, EDM, brazing, etc.).

* An understanding of best practices for dimensioning and tolerancing to a level necessary for mentoring less experienced engineers.

* Practical experience with regulatory compliance, especially as it relates to vibration and shock isolation.

* Hands-on skills in using hand tools, power tools, and machine shop equipment (mills, lathes, drill presses and CNC machines).

* Skilled with CAD software (SolidWorks, ProE, AutoCAD, or similar).

* Experience writing technical reports.
