Job Description

Manpower Engineering is searching for a SMT Process Engineer for a full time/direct hire opportunity in the Austin, TX area.

Major Responsibilities

* Familiarity with J-STD and IPC, IEEE, UL

* Driving improvements in all related manufacturing processes, including those related to products, equipment, human interface, and product quality.

* Metrics management, corrective action analysis, process troubleshooting, and new process development/qualification.

* Operational ownership of all manufacturing processes, as well as support of all related products during their manufacturing life cycle.

* Active involvement with production processes and personnel through partnerships with the production personnel, quality and design teams.

* Supporting documentation (documenting processes and effectively communicating to production personnel) activities to ensure documentation correctness and completeness is available for all product builds and process operations.

* Organizing many details and manage multiple priorities related to operations and organization.

* Developing new and maintaining or improving existing manufacturing processes within SMT while focusing on efficiency

* Development of methods for process monitoring using existing and new interfaces

* Providing Safety, ROI and quality justifications for process improvements

* Specifying, identifying and procuring new manufacturing equipment for production readiness and preparing equipment for production with a focus on the machine integration and data collection

* Developing/revising process documentation and work instructions to support SMT operations

* Assist the floor in optimization of process parameters and monitoring for process yields, technical issue troubleshooting, cost, and process stability and capability

* Assisting with the training of new personnel and participating in the design of operator training materials

* Supporting factory maintenance personnel with the troubleshooting and repair of process equipment

* Global support of contract manufacturer SMT processes

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Knowledge of hand and SMT assembly methods for electronic PCB

* Strong organizational skills along with excellent oral and written communication ability

* Knowledge of IPC-A-610 Solderability Standards; IPC-A-610 certification a plus

* Interfacing with equipment vendors to troubleshoot and resolve issues

* Design support

* Familiarity with Design of Experiment (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and 6 sigma concepts for process development including tools such as Minitab, JMP, etc.

Education and Experience:

* Degree in Engineering (preferably in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering) from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.

* Minimum: 3 years' experience in SMT production including programming, troubleshooting and operation of SMT equipment.

* Preferred: 3-5 years' experience as a Process engineer in the Engineering or Quality Department or senior level SMT technician.

* Experience with SMT automated equipment (Screen printing, Pick and Place, AOI, SPI, Oven, Conformal Coating dispensing) in a Low volume/High mix manufacturing environment
