Job Description

A client of ours is seeking a Senior to Principal Mechanical Engineer to participate in and lead aspects of the design and development of medical devices including capital equipment and single-use disposables from first-in-human prototypes through commercial production. This is a team-oriented role that will work collaboratively with engineering peers and senior leadership to develop design solutions optimizing performance, reliability, manufacturability, and usability. This position is within a start up company and will have the ability to wear many hats as the company works to bring their prototype to manufacturing. This role will also have mentoring responsibilities. This can be a contract or direct hire opening. It's located in Arden Hills, MN.



Responsibilities include:



* Design, document, prototype, and test cryolysis systems and accessories from component to system level assemblies.

* Lead and participate in product design, characterization, verification, and validation testing efforts, including development of requirements and test methods.

* Collaborate with cross-functional team members and outside design firms to improve usability and performance of existing early-stage designs.

* Support short-term low volume production by identifying and working with vendors to source custom parts including machined metal components, extruded tubing, fluid and electrical connectors, and injection molded and formed plastic components.

* Support long-term high-volume production by working with contract manufacturers to develop designs and manufacturing methods for commercial devices.

* Occasional travel for clinical study support and supplier development.







Position Qualifications:



* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.

* 8+ years of years of medical device mechanical engineering experience

* Expert-level knowledge of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics

* 5+ years SolidWorks experience and excellent general computer skills

* Thorough understanding of metal and plastic component fabrication techniques and manufacturing processes.



Desirable Qualifications:



* Expert-level knowledge of design and analysis of fluid heat transfer systems

* Experience designing sterile single-use medical devices

* Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
