Job Description

Seeking a part time technical writer to be:



* Responsible for planning, organizing, writing and editing product documentation & user manuals.

* Coordinates layout, organization, production, updates and modifications of documentation.

* Use FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, RoboHelp, and Adobe InDesign experience to work on user documentation for handheld network testing devices.

* Mostly remote, would be nice to meeting onsite/in person occasionally.



EXPERTISE:





* Product knowledge is extensive in multiple product areas, knowledge in handheld network testing devices is highly desired.

* Full use of document management tools (configuration, revision control, life-cycle management).

* Consults with subject matter experts about products.



* Works with engineers to update documentation.

* Writes all types of manuals and determines depth of coverage and presentation style.



DEGREE OF WORK DIRECTION:





* Works with little supervision.

* May determine methods and procedures on new assignments, guides project team members.



JOB COMPLEXITY:

* Writes a full spectrum of manuals for products of medium to high complexity.

* Works on multiple products with multiple priorities and deadlines.

* Plans, writes and edits manuals.



EXPERIENCE:

* Technical writing and editing experience with multiple products.

* Completion of a variety of manual types for multiple products.

* Programming, servicing and/or applications experience as well as user expertise with multiple product types.

* BS (CS, EE, TC) or equivalent preferred but will consider other education/experience.



Skills/Experience:



Understand or quickly learn about handheld network testing devices.

Understand or quickly learn Ethernet and Wi-Fi network concepts and test methodologies.

Understand or quickly gain a basic understanding of IETF RFCs and ITU-T specifications.

Create a well-organized outline of the information to be presented to network test equipment users.

Gain understanding of features still under development via minimally intrusive interviews of development engineers, test engineers, planners and project managers.

Present task-based information that helps customers efficiently complete their network troubleshooting and testing tasks.

Use Global English and minimalism to keep documentation concise, unambiguous, and easy to use.

Have strong Adobe FrameMaker skills.
