Job Description

Key Responsibilities

* Oversees the health, safety and environmental programs, including developing, writing, implementing, auditing, and maintaining policies and procedures in compliance with company, local, state and federal rules and regulations

* Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemical, toxins, equipment and other materials

* Ensures that sites remain up-to-date and in compliance with OSHA regulations including recordkeeping

* Leads weekly safety meetings, and coordinates all EHS training, communications, and program management activities

* Inspects facilities for potential EHS risks, determines corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented

* Leads the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigation of incidents, injuries, and near misses and drives action items to closure

* Facilitates environmental programs with the assistance of the Corporate Environmental Department

* Facilitates the reporting and follow-up of workplace incidents and accidents with the appropriate agencies

* Responsible for managing the site Workers Compensation claims

* Supports and leads the use of PSM Practices such as Employee Participation, Mechanical Integrity, Management of Change, and Pre-Startup Safety Review

* Performs routine job skills analysis and task assessments

* Demonstrates management's commitment to safety

Required Education and Experience

* Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Engineering, or other technical discipline

* 5 + years' experience in a health and safety role at a manufacturing location, preferably in the chemical or food industry

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred

* Strong interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills, including the ability to train

* Working knowledge of OSHA regulatory matters and industrial chemical process operations
