Job Description

Associate Underwriter

The Workers' Compensation Associate Underwriter is responsible for the evaluation, selection, acceptance, rejection, pricing, servicing and communication to claims, of commercial insurance policies within accepted company procedures and guidelines. Maintains effective relationships and manages profitability.

Responsibilities for the Associate Underwriter:

* Reviews renewal policies for eligibility, new business to ensure that all policy documentation is in place, and decisions made by underwriting assistants to ensure long term profitability

* Determines acceptability of renewals utilizing loss control inspections, loss experience reports and underwriting filings

* Reviews and revises pricing and coverage to ensure premiums charged are commensurate with the exposure

* Reviews daily correspondence, reports, endorsements, loss control reports, and publications pertaining to responsibility

* Examines loss notices, desirability of risk notices from claims and recommends appropriate action

* Assists rating technicians on rating decisions

* Places facultative reinsurance for risks exceeding the reinsurance treaty capacity within the company

* Coordinates with the department manager for the processing of non-renewal and conditional renewal notices within time frames as required by the Department of Insurance

* Communicates with the claims department and payroll to evaluate risk

Education and Experience Requirements :

* Bachelor's Degree from an accredited University in field preferred

* 3-7+ years of Commercial Underwriting experience specifically in Workers Compensation required

* Thorough knowledge of property and casualty underwriting procedures and policies

* AU, CPCU, CIC, AINS, ARM Designations preferred

* Knowledge of processing methods, workflow procedures, and insurance underwriting

* Technical problem solver and have strong decision making ability, while acting on own initiative

* Strong leadership skills for driving successful meetings with cross-functional teams

* Highly developed sense of integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction

* Able to manage/resolve occasional customer complaints and able to identify/escalate priority issues

* Demonstrated analytical problem solving skills using a systematic approach

* Excellent presentation skills including the ability to prepare, organize and develop completed materials

* Must be able to work Saturdays with one day off during the week

* Self motivated and confident. Must have a passion for quality and customer service
