Job Description

Over-arching role requirements:

* Safely work directly and indirectly with a broad range of proprietary chemical products

* Have the aptitude for learning Nalco's work systems and our customer's paper production processes

Beyond these two general needs, our service technician is responsible for three broad categories of work that support the safe delivery and optimized use of Nalco chemicals.

* Equipment Management (50%)

* Process Monitoring (30%)

* Lab Testing and Analysis (20%)

Equipment Management

* Installing, calibrating, cleaning and maintaining all Nalco-owned equipment at our customer sites.

* Our equipment base generally consists of:

o Chemical make-down skids

o Chemical delivery skids

o Process automation and control skids

* Typical skills and knowledge required for success

o General pipe fitting skills for both tubing applications and fitted pipe systems up to 3" diameter

o Ability to layout (design) piping schemes for new installations

o Ability to troubleshoot and maintain piston pumps, diaphragm pumps, gear pumps, progressive cavity pumps and small centrifugal pumps

o Ability to troubleshoot and maintain flow meters, check valves, pressure relief valves and other fluid flow system components

o Ability to learn cleaning and calibration requirements for all Nalco-designed process control skids.

 These skids include flow meters, pH meters, conductivity meters, turbidity meters and other similar tools for measuring specific qualities of liquid flow streams.

Process Monitoring

* Yankee dryer coating optimization

o Creping and cleaning blade profiles - measure and chart

o Vibration monitoring tool utilization

* Waste Treatment Plant process optimization

o Belt Press optimization

o Screw Press optimization

o Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) clarifier optimization

* Micro-biological control and optimization

* Process Defoamer control and optimization

Lab Testing and Analysis

* Aptitude to learn specific bench testing protocols for both on-going data tracking and for specific troubleshooting. Types of testing include:

o Micro-biological plating

o Flocculation simulations

o Dewatering simulations

o Entrained air measurements

o Industry-specific Mutek and Zeta Potential charge measurements

o Process health checks for pH, conductivity, ORP, ect

o Etc

Ideally, the candidate with already possess the requisite generic mechanical skills and elementary electrical skills and have a strong aptitude for learning how to troubleshoot, maintain and calibrate our Nalco-designed proprietary equipment. Additionally, the candidate will have both the desire and ability to learn our chemical applications used for the paper industry. For the latter to successfully happen, the candidate must have demonstrated such learning or have completed some type of education in a complimentary field.
