Job Description

Manpower is looking for a Plant Controller for one of our great clients! Our client is a leading global specialty and fine chemical company dedicated to the development of novel chemistries that deliver enhanced product and process performance across a wide range of applications in biotechnology, paints and coatings, personal care, metalworking fluids, energy and other industrial markets.

Job Summary

The Plant Controller functions as a business partner with plant and financial management to effectively manage and control the local business. The Plant Controller will lead a team accountable for plant-level responsibilities including general accounting, cost accounting, inventory, business analysis, financial closing & reporting, internal controls, processes and policies, etc. The Plant Controller will be an integral part of plant leadership and should have knowledge of plant/production operations with a variety of departments.

Job Responsibilities

Understanding plant results

- Valuation, including reserves

- Cost Rolls

- Absorption

- Physical Control

- Counts and reconciliation


- Supports new proposals, CARS, approvals

- Committed spend

- Actual spend/impact on total project/variances and drivers

- Reviews close-out of projects and depreciation (correct timing, amounts, cost, center, etc)

- Tracks performance of past projects

Financial Closing & Reporting

- Closing production & maintenance orders

- Month-end accruals

- Adjusts reserves

- Calculates production variances

- Determines capitalized inventory variances

- Reconciles accounts

- Ensures financial reporting follows GAAP

- Ensures appropriate internal controls are in place

- Assists with annual audit

- Develops Plant budget and provides thorough analysis of variances

- Manages inter-company transfers of products

Support Logistics

- Assists with freight analysis

Support procurement

- Reviews reporting

- Assists with reporting of savings projects


- Manages performance of team

- Assists in hiring as needed

- Training and development

- Processes and policies

- Builds professional relationships with internal and external clients

- Makes solid, objective and ethical decisions

- Maintains strict confidence with financially sensitive information, and demonstrates a high level of integrity

- Stays current with industry through continuous learning and feedback on individual performance

Control environment

- Goods receipt/invoices receipt (un-invoiced receipts)

- Reviews accounts payable/expense

- Manages internal controls

- Assists with local taxes, regulatory filings as needed

Job Requirements

Bachelor's in Accounting

10+ years' experience with manufacturing cost accounting

Previous role as Plant Controller or Cost Manager within manufacturing, including leading a team

Strong analytical background

SAP experience

Provide examples of process improvement within previous roles

Strong written and verbal communication

Proficient with MS Office, especially Excel

Ability to build professional relationships with internal and external clients

Job Preferences

Master's degree in Accounting or related


Highly prefer chemical manufacturing or process manufacturing experience
