Job Description

Summary: Under general supervision, and as assigned, performs repetitive polishing and buffing operations to obtain luster, color and finishing on natural and/or plated parts. Work is subject to process and final inspection.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Performs buffing operations using abrasive and polishing wheels; dress and balance wheels. Macosser machines, grinding machines, chipping table and belter.

* Applies and manipulates work to abrasive and cotton wheels, varying pressure and position to bring out required finishes.

* Selects variations, within specification limitations and within personal skill level, to compensate for lack of uniformity in materials.

* Pre-polishing department-Performance standards call for removal of major roughness and burrs, preparing parts for polishing process.

* Polishing department-Performance standards call for high-grade finish, ready for chrome plating, on large and small pieces where contours are not difficult to maintain.

Physical Demands.

The employee must lift/move and manipulate 1 to 20 pounds routinely throughout the workday. Visual inspection of work, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination is required. Exposure to fumes/flashes/smoke, machine noises and heat from machinery. Walking and/or standing 100% of the workday. Ability to wear protective equipment as required, including glasses, goggles, hearing protection, respirator mask, gloves and safety shoes/boots. The work schedule for this classification is full-time.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to normal indoor non-air-conditioned temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate where hearing protection is necessary based on OSHA requirements.
