    ROLE SUMMARY:
    The Underwriting Support Associate is accountable to provide excellent customer service by responding to e-mails and phone calls in a professional and timely manner.     This role is accountable to ensure that medical information sent by service provider vendors is matched correctly and within standard and also ensure that mail room functions within the New Business department are adequately staffed and turnaround standards are being met.

    * Crucial in effective and timely underwriting
    * 50-75 emails daily, 20-30 faxes daily requiring handling
    * 15-20 work items handled daily

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
    Customer Service
    * Communicate with Doctor's offices and customers regarding medical evaluations, ensuring that all required information is obtained and follow established guidelines related to private information
    * Review requests for authorizations of medicals with carriers and ensure responses are handled within established guidelines

    Administration
    Shared evidence:
    * Request shared medical information from other carriers
    * Share medical evidence with other carriers and determine whether payment is required
    * Share evidence with the reinsurers as required for specific situations and as part of negotiated treaties
    * Request information from Medical Information Bureau based on established procedures and protocols
    * Assist Underwriters with any administrative issues that supports effective underwriting
    Medical requirement matching:
    *Review files received from medical service providers daily and match requirements received with correct files
    * Review the unknown list and search for matching applications using name and date of birth
    * Act as first point of main contact for missing medical requirements and follow up directly with service providers for resolution

    Risk Management
    * Adhere to all aspects of First Principles our code of Business Conduct and Ethics including individual accountability as it relates to potential conflicts of interest, safeguarding of customer information, trading in securities, anti-money laundering, privacy and disclosure of outside business activities
    * Authority to use and access confidential information related to customer information, product and financial information

    Cross Functional Relationships
    To Underwriter
    * Discuss medical information and share information as required to support specific case files

    NICE TO HAVE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
    * Good knowledge of the insurance business is preferable
    * Working towards introductory LOMA courses (LOMA 1 & 2)
