Job Description

Position Summary:
Supports manufacturing department in the repair and maintenance of molds and tooling.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Repairs and maintains existing molds.
• Assists in determining quoting fees for tooling.
• Provides technical assistance to all departments regarding the mold making and tooling process. Researches and solves mold design and tooling problems. May fix the problem or notify the appropriate individual/vendor.
• Ensures molds and tooling meets quality standards.
• Tracks molds/tooling statistics and completes associated paperwork.
• Trains new employees.
• Recommends new ideas to improve efficiency and profitability.
• Participates on committees and works on projects.
• Responsible for stopping a product or process to correct a quality problem and/or bring to the attention of management.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Other duties as may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.

Scope of Work Relationships: Has daily contact with production management during same and other shifts, daily contact with other department personnel. Occasional contact with suppliers/vendors.

Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed mostly indoors. Work time is spent in an injection molding production facility. Loud noises are constantly present. Equipment movement hazards and electrical shock risk are present. Strong fumes occasionally present.
Physical Requirements: Job is performed sitting, standing and moving around the plant, along with some ladder climbing. Lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs is required along with frequent pushing/pulling of mold plates over 100 lbs. Must be capable of safely operating a forklift for transporting molds. Good or corrected vision is required to perform job duties.
Equipment Used: Calculator, computer, milling machines, hand tools and power tools.

Education/Experience/Training: High school diploma (or G.E.D.) and completed tool and die maker apprenticeship program. At least three years’ work experience as a tool and die maker.

Must be able to follow instructions.
Must be able to work under pressure/deadlines.
Must be able to multi task and prioritize.
High level math and problem solving skills required.
Must be able to work independently.
Must have good communication and people skills.
