Propane Dehydrogenation (PDH) Facility Shift Supervisor

Manpower is currently seeking a Propane Dehydrogenation (PDH) Facility Shift Supervisor) for a permanent position in Calgary, AB.

This role will report to the Operations Manager, Propane Dehydrogenation (PDH). This role will initially be based out of the Calgary office before moving to the Strathcona County area in mid-2019 and will work rotating 12-hour day/night shifts.


* Providing support to operating and commissioning teams to allow for smooth transition and hand-off to from project to operations

* Providing input to commissioning planning, facility systems definition and turnover sequences

* Assisting in the development of standard operating procedures and emergency procedures for facility operation

* Assisting in start-up and shutdown activities as required

* Supervising PDH plant operations during a scheduled shift and ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with standard operating procedures, operational directives, safety requirements and environmental regulations

* Ensuring timely review and updates to operating procedures, including management of change for procedures

* Being an active member of the onsite Emergency Response Team

* Leading shift change and daily operations meetings

* Developing operator tasks, operator round requirements and appropriate shift handover reports and logs

* Managing emergency response actions to effectively and safely deal with upset operating conditions

* Coordinating key operational activities between shifts by working with incoming/outgoing Shift Supervisor to ensure fulfillment of operational goals and targets

* Ensuring that shift operators follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

* Coordinating with other plant Supervision to maintain optimum operating conditions within the Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC)

* Coordinating maintenance activities, notifications, and work orders to ensure minimal disruption to production and plant operations.

* Providing leadership to shift team during shutdowns / turnarounds / outages; ensuring operational activities are planned and efficiently executed to ensure schedule and safety compliance

* Leading start-up and shutdown activities as required


* 15+ years' industry-related petrochemical experience

* Relevant post-secondary education

* Minimum 2nd Class Power Engineering certificate

* Previous experience with Oleflex licensed technology

* Previous experience with processes such as ethane crackers, platforming, CCR, olefins production is an asset

* Strong analytical skills

* Strong communication and technical writing abilities

* Demonstrated leadership and teambuilding qualities
