Job Description

A leading plastics manufacturer in Rochester Hills is looking for a temporary purchasing clerk. This would be a 90 day assignment, with the possibility to turn into a long term position. The ideal candidate will be flexible with job duties, with at least 1 year relevant experience.



POSITION SUMMARY

The Clerk is responsible for performing various clerical duties related to purchasing, such as keeping order files or order register up-to-date, checking materials received against purchase orders, and checking overdue items on schedule. This position will compare prices, specifications, and delivery dates and with approval, award contracts to bidders or places orders with suppliers. Additionally, this position manages the Avante Purchase Order system.



KEY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Follow up on delivery schedule for existing orders as requested.

2. Purchases materials in a timely and cost effective manner.

3. Effectively manages Avante Purchase Order system to meet company needs.

4. Verifies nomenclature and specifications of purchase requisitions to assure accuracy of details.

5. Consults catalogs and interviews vendors to obtain competitive prices and specifications

6. Compiles records of items purchased or transferred between departments, prices, deliveries and inventories. Computes total cost of items purchased.

7. Confers with suppliers concerning late deliveries.

8. Compares prices, specifications, and delivery dates and with approval, awards contract to bidders or places orders with suppliers or mail order firms.

9. Verifies bills from suppliers with bids and purchase orders and approves bills for payment.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

1. Associates degree in business administration or related field and two years experience in purchasing; or High School plus three years experience in purchasing department.

2. Excellent at multi-tasking and producing timely and accurate work product. Must be detail oriented.

3. Excellent MS Office suite skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)

4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong work ethic; integrity; good judgment.



PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

1. Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field.

2. 3 years experience in purchasing department in a manufacturing environment.
