Job Description

The Main Dish Cook prepares entree, vegetables, and other menu items according to standardized recipes; keeps accurate documentation of food preparation. Serves as Cashier in the School Cafeteria to collect money; responsible for accurate records of all food leaving the serving line by accurately using a computerized point of sale system to record sales. Follows accurate procedures for the exchange and collection of monies, assists in the preparation of deposits; may deliver bank deposits as needed. Ensures the kitchen area, equipment, and utensils are kept clan according to sanitation codes; follows a schedule for maintain cleanliness. Performs various housekeeping duties that may include seeping and mopping floors, wiping or washing tables and chairs, cleaning the bathroom and cleaning the serving line, receiving area ad dining areas.

Provides effective communication and customer service to students, parents and school system staff as appropriate. Train coach and mentor employees in their assigned duties and responsibilities. Provides constructive feedback to help develop these skills. Complete all required records , inventories and vending procedures as required. Complies with policies and procedures in the Cumberland County Public Schools Child Nutrition Handbook.


Ability to read, write, and make simple calculations and follow oral and written directions. Ability to learn and follow prescribed preparation methods of handling food and supplies. Ability to communicate, read, and interpret recipes, work with others and independently. Personal standards of appearance and dress compatible with those required by Child Nutrition Services. Interested in working in an environment with school aged children. Emotional stability and physical fitness to perform duties assigned. Must be able to speak and comprehend the English language.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to perform lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, able to lift 20 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly. Must be able to perform basic life operational functioning of lifting, climbing, reaching, standing, use of fingers, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Must have hand and finger dexterity for accurate computer functions. Auditory acuity at a level to communicate effectively with customers and employees in direct conversation as well as by telephone. visual acuity to read and analyze information in hard copy or on computer screens. Must be able to express and exchange ideas effectively by spoken word.

Special Requirements:

Must have and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver's License

Must also maintain an operational telephone.
