Job Description

The rate will be $14/hour, 8am-4:30pm.



Position context:



Performs routine testing of all products to ensure specifications are met. Participates in the environmental monitoring program. Maintenance of Food Safety Systems.



Position content:



Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Duties and Responsibilities



Displays and promotes positive safety behaviors at all times, uses proper personal protective equipment, appropriate safety tools, equipment and procedures that ensure self and others go home safe each day; that area and equipment operate to highest safety levels, that all people in area (maintenance, quality, visitors, contractors, etc.) comply with safety directives and keep area neat and clean.



. Aware of and follows all DSM Life Saving Rules.

. Acts in such a way that safety awareness and accident prevention are considered in performing all tasks.

. Works to SHE standards and encourages fellow colleagues to work to the same standards.

. Maintains area of responsibility in a clean and safe manner. Promptly cleans up work area.



Additional Key Areas of Accountability/Responsibility



A) Key areas of accountability

1) Analysis of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products applying validated methods to ensure they meet or exceed customer specifications for food safety and quality requirements.

a. Autonomous analysis required

b. Accurate data entry of test results

2) Implementation of Food Systems (GMP, HACCP, Pest Control, Sanitation).

a. Weekly auditing of areas for compliance

b. Complete corrective actions plans for non-compliance issues within Quality

c. Ownership of the Environmental Monitoring Program

3) Continuous Improvement

a. Participate on special project teams designed to improve production and laboratory processes.

b. Update SOP's as needed

4) Work with production team to identify contamination risks and develop and refine facility sanitation programs to prevent recurrence.

a. Investigation of contaminated products

5) Preparation for audits and performing AOAC proficiency testing for Micro lab.

a. Ensure lab area is kept clean and audit-ready.

b. Assist with preparing and answering audit questions

c. Arrange time and testing for quarterly proficiency testing

6) Assist with training others, supports other employees

B) Special assignments

1) Additional Quality Assurance Functions as needed

2) Vacation coverage in other areas of the lab

Educational Level:

Bachelor's degree (Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, or related science)



Mathematical Skills

Proficient in basic math skills.



Reasoning Ability

Must to able to prioritize.

Analytical and statistical



Computer Skills

SAP, proficient in word processing program, preferably Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)





Required level of experiences:



Proven ability in the area of testing methods and evaluation of cultures and related products. Strong experience with microbiological sampling techniques and testing methods. Previous experience writing formal documents such as analytical procedures.



Preferred knowledge of food safety and HACCP systems, cultures process and co-products. Desired: SAP experience, one year of Quality experience.
