Accountant



Manpower is currently hiring an Accountant to fulfill a contract position for our client, a Major Pipeline Company, in Calgary.



Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

* Preparation and management of monthly reports and analyses (AVB, AVA, and other internal schedules and tax reporting)

* Preparation of monthly and quarterly consolidated Canadian Midstream reports for financial reporting requirements (Ex. Monthly flash summary, consolidated balance sheet variances, cash pooling reports, etc.)

* Collaborate with other groups and primarily involved in special finance Adhoc projects, such as general ledger issues, determining new account requirements, ensuring new accounting transactions are properly captured in the ledger, etc.

* Prepare analysis and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts

* Assist with design and implementation of processes and accounting system improvements to ensure they are well aligned with the operating systems

* Provide guidance to junior staff members on the Accounting team; reviewing junior staff members work (Ex. Monthly account reconciliation, sign-off of cash deposits, assist on determining proper accounting treatment for transactions and journal entries)

* Ensure Canadian Gas NEB regulated and non-regulated (provincially regulated) financial transactions are reflected in accordance with the general accounting standards

* Prepare all data and supporting information for quarterly and annual audits; address auditor's questions and additional requests as needed for financial statement analysis

* Assist in GAAP research for new transactions or businesses

* Prepare quarterly and annual Asset Impairment Analysis for Canadian Gas Transmission Midstream business unit

* Assist with the development, documentation and effective operation of financial controls

* Maintain effective working relationships with audit services, corporate internal controls and external auditors

* Coordinate with the tax group, regulatory reporting and other external parties on financial surveys, legal entity reports and other requirements

* Ensure compliance with US GAAP and SOX processes

Qualifications and Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting

* Canadian accredited professional designation (CPA)

* 5 - 7 years of progressively experience for a major company or division of a large corporation

* Demonstrated decision-making and leadership skills

* Strong knowledge of US GAAP, rate regulated accounting and internal control principles

* Ability to apply accounting, auditing, tax and regulatory standards and principles

* Ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization

* Excellent organization, planning, and analytical skills

* Results oriented with sound business judgment
