Job Description

Industrial Design Engineer- permanent opportunity with a leading global manufacturing and distribution company of high end consumer electronics.

Reporting to the Manager, Mechanical and Industrial Design, this position will be responsible for bringing the designs created by the industrial design team to life and applying the company's engineering principles and philosophies to make them work through efficient and well executed mechanical design - through to manufacturing and product release, with an emphasis on production engineering using in-house manufacturing processes and RFQ preparation for outsourced production.

Position Responsibilities

* Development of mechanical aspects of loudspeaker design under the supervision of the Manager, Industrial and Mechanical Design.

* Participation in mechanical aspects of new product development and their refinement; working closely with industrial design lead, product manager, project team and manufacturing.

* Translation of product requirements into an efficient and high-quality manufacturable design.

* Utilizing computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software to develop mechanical solutions based on standard industry principles for product design.

* Evaluation of design options through computer modeling, prototyping and DFM reviews.

* Close collaboration with the Industrial Design Lead and Design Engineers.

* Providing suggestions on design improvements

* Utilizing knowledge of various machines, best engineering practices, mathematics, materials selection, fabrication and finishing processes and other physical sciences to complete documentation.

* Creation of compelling and thoughtful work that exceeds customer expectation.

* Creating and maintaining engineering BOM from the start of a project to mass production.

* Supporting manufacturing startup with an eye towards continuous improvement.

* Creating and revising production electro-mechanical drawings (assembly drawings with details).

* Creating and executing engineering change notices.

Education and Skills

* B.Sc. or higher in appropriate technical Engineering discipline.

* A minimum of 5 years' experience in consumer electronics industry - speaker related preferred, cabinetry industry and plastic manufacturing experience desired

* High proficiency in SolidWorks 3D modeling skills.

* Experience in EPDM vault files management preferred.

* Proficient with GD&T and tolerance stack calculations and best drafting practices desired.

* Experience in program management (MS Project, WorkFront, etc.) preferred.

* Knowledge & experience with CNC operations, plastic molding, extrusions, casting, wood shop fabrication and fine finishing.

* Ability to work in project team environment within predefined project schedules and budgets.

* Capable of handling multiple projects/initiatives simultaneously and executing to completion.
