Registered Pharmacy Technician - Pharmacy Services

What the job is?

Under direction of Pharmacist, perform Pharmacy Technician duties that include:

* Receives, prepares and dispenses prescriptions and drug orders

* Counting, pouring, weighing, measuring, mixing, re-packaging and labeling medications

* Performs sterile and non-sterile product compounding

* Monitors and maintains stock levels of drugs in designated areas

* Enters prescriptions and drug orders information into Pharmacy computer system with complete accuracy

* Maintains records such as prescriptions (including narcotics and controlled drugs)

* Quality control and measurements of drug distribution

* Adhere to responsibilities in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Safety Policies and procedures

* Take action to address and report hazards, dangerous circumstances and unsafe situations to their Supervisor

* Complies with the Workplace Conduct policy, principles and expectations.



What you bring to the job:

* Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP).

* One year of experience within the past five years as a Pharmacy Technician in a computerized hospital pharmacy or a community pharmacy is preferred.

* Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, courteously and tactfully

* Interact with Pharmacy staff, Nurses, Health care professionals and patients

* Excellent attention to detail and ability to problem solve

* Willing to work with potential for needle stick injury / Potential for exposure to cytotoxic medications

* Comfortable using computer, printer, phone, fax, photocopier, calculator, automix compounder

* Fast pace work environment with quick turnaround times and multiple deadlines

* Ability for physical, mental, visual demands for concentration reading labels, computer screens, phone call communication, fill and order entry and preparation of IV's

* Audit fills checked to eliminate patient harm

* Participate in training of new students, new staff and in quality improvement projects
