Job Description

Position Summary:



The Chemical Blending Operator's primary responsibility is to mix raw materials in order to create finished products according to the batch recipes. In addition, this position will be cross trained in other roles to support operations as required.



Primary Duties and Responsibilities:



* The ability to read batch recipes and follow instructions accordingly so that batches are made to the correct quality standard

* Stage and prepare ingredients for blends as needed for production according to batch sheets and formulas. Ensures correct ingredients are used for each batch

* Deliver chemicals into blend tanks in predetermined quantities using automated systems as well some semi-automated / manual systems

* Operates equipment safely (mix tank, scales, meters, pumps, forklifts, etc.)

* Ensures all raw materials returned to inventory have been documented correctly and the containers are in good condition

* Clean equipment when required

* Work closely with the laboratory to ensure products are formulated and tested to meet quality standards

* Responsible for drawing product samples to the lab as necessary

* Responsible for receiving bulk materials

* Raise process issues with Manufacturing Manager and Lab Technicians.

* Complete all batch documentation accurately and in a timely manner so as to ensure raw material inventory is properly accounted for

* Adhere to all safety policies and procedures at all time, raise concerns as they arise

* Champion continuous improvement initiatives

* Autonomous maintenance activities; changing of diaphragm pumps, hose cam locks, fittings etc.

* Other duties relevant to the position, assigned as required



Knowledge and Skill Requirements:



* Strong understanding of safety regulations and accountability for personal and coworker safety

* Strong understanding of WHMIS / GHS

* Analytical ability, capability to troubleshoot and diagnose process systems

* Strong written and verbal English communication skills

* Flexible and adaptable to a changing environment

* Sense of ownership and pride in work

* Continuous improvement background, able to identify process improvements and drive them through to completion

* Mechanical skills

* Familiarity with good manufacturing processes, ISO 9001

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

* Ability to self-motivate and organize priorities to ensure customer and company needs are being met

* Computer proficiency

* Valid Forklift license



Minimum Qualifications:



* High school or equivalent, chemical technologist post-secondary diploma preferred

* 5+ years' experience working in manufacturing

* Experience in the chemical industry is a definite asset
