ManpowerGroup Case Study: Life Sciences, 2009 H1N1 Pandemic
ManpowerGroup implemented onsite management strategies to recruit and manage more than 500 contractors on a tight timeline to rapidly increase production of Flu vaccines.
Challenge
In 2009, ManpowerGroup partnered with a CDMO/CMO to scale up and produce +20 million doses of H1N1 vaccine during the height of production of seasonal Flu vaccines.
Solution
Timelines and deliverable objectives were established on extremely short notice, requiring a ‘surge hiring’ of over 600 employees within a 12-month timeline. Positions included: Production/Packaging, Bench Scientists, Engineers (Process, Validation, Quality, Tech Transfer etc.), Purchasing/Procurement, HR & Administrative. ManpowerGroup established an ‘onsite’ presence in partnership with the client to work strategically with site leadership to define priorities, establish KPIs, facilitate interviewing and hiring of contractors, and ensure client satisfaction.
Results
At the height of the ‘hiring surge’ ManpowerGroup had over 500 contractors onsite, an average fill ratio of +90%, and an average of > 48 hours of time to fill.
