Protection & Control Engineer (IEC 61850, Relay Testing & Commissioning) | $56.22/hr | One year

Our client, a leading energy infrastructure and power systems organization, is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer (IEC 61850, Relay Testing & Commissioning) to join their team. As a Protection & Control Engineer, you will be part of the Grid Solutions and Power Systems team supporting engineering, testing, and field commissioning operations. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and effective communication skills which will align successfully in the organization.

Job Title: Protection & Control Engineer (IEC 61850, Relay Testing & Commissioning)

Location: Salt Lake City, UT (Remote initially, transitioning to Hybrid)

Pay Range: $56.22/hr

What's the Job?

• Program, configure, test, and commission protection and control systems for power generation, transmission, and distribution applications.
• Develop relay setting files and perform protection relay configuration for generator, transformer, feeder, bus, and line protection systems.
• Interpret and analyze single-line diagrams, schematics, logic diagrams, wiring drawings, and bills of materials.
• Configure communications networks and protocols, including IEC 61850, and support system integration activities.
• Provide field commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and customer support while managing assigned projects with minimal supervision.

What's Needed?

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience with power system protection and control, relay testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with protection relays, relay settings, and secondary injection testing.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, logic diagrams, and single-line diagrams.
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively (up to 70-80% initially) and support customer site commissioning activities.
