Director of Engineering & Manufacturing

Location: San Jose, CA (On-Site)

Compensation: $240,000 - $300,000+ base salary, commensurate with experience, plus annual target bonus opportunity of 10%.

The Opportunity

As Director of Engineering & Manufacturing, you will be responsible for the overall leadership, development, and execution of engineering and manufacturing operations. You will oversee teams spanning design engineering, systems engineering, advanced process development, manufacturing, facilities, maintenance, and technical operations.

This position requires a strategic leader who can balance long-term vision with day-to-day execution while driving innovation, operational excellence, process scalability, and organizational growth.

You will work closely with executive leadership, industry partners, government stakeholders, research institutions, and cross-functional teams to accelerate the development and commercialization of advanced manufacturing technologies.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop multidisciplinary Engineering & Manufacturing teams
  • Drive manufacturing scale-up, operational excellence, and process optimization initiatives
  • Oversee product development, process development, manufacturing readiness, and production operations
  • Establish and track key performance indicators including throughput, yield, quality, and operational performance
  • Lead new product introduction activities from concept through manufacturing deployment
  • Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and related engineering initiatives
  • Oversee facilities, maintenance, equipment acquisition, calibration, and operational readiness
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic growth initiatives and technology commercialization efforts
  • Develop partnerships with customers, suppliers, research organizations, and industry stakeholders
  • Support intellectual property development and technology transfer initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with quality management systems and operational standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related technical discipline required
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Significant leadership experience within advanced manufacturing, electronics manufacturing, product development, or related technical environments
  • Proven experience managing engineering and manufacturing organizations
  • Experience leading process development, product commercialization, manufacturing scale-up, and operational improvement initiatives
  • Strong understanding of quality systems, manufacturing operations, and technology development
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams and complex technical programs
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, customers, government stakeholders, and technical teams
