Mechanical Technician

Our client, a leading automotive manufacturer, is seeking a Mechanical Technician to join their team. As a Mechanical Technician, you will be part of the Components Lab supporting the transmission and back-to-back gear testing team. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and effective communication skills which will align successfully in the organization.

Job Title: Mechanical Technician 4
Location: Pontiac, MI 48340, On-site
Pay Range: $34 - $39 per hour

What’s the Job?

• Set up and tear down test articles, instrumentation, and mechanical components used in automotive component testing.
• Conduct development and validation testing on transmission, gear, drivetrain, and electric drive unit components.
• Perform mechanical troubleshooting, diagnostics, gear changes, component teardown, and post-test analysis.
• Collect, review, validate, and document test data, including measuring and photographing component wear or damage.
• Collaborate with test engineers and technicians to improve testing methods, equipment performance, and testing processes.

What’s Needed?

• 2-year technical degree or related automotive technical education.
• Minimum 3 years of automotive experience with strong hands-on mechanical knowledge, hand tools, repair, and troubleshooting.
• At least 6 months of experience with component/subsystem test setup, installation, or automotive testing.
• Knowledge of transmissions, drivetrains, gears, clutches, drive units, or similar automotive mechanical systems.
• Strong mechanical, fabrication, diagnostic, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
