Tooling and Fixturing Designer

A very reputable medical device client of ours is seeking a Mechanical Designer with expertise in tooling, fixturing, and workholding design to support their product design group. This is not a product design role. The primary responsibility is designing the tools, fixtures, gauges, assembly aids, and manufacturing support equipment required to produce, inspect, test, and assemble medical device components.

Job Title:  Mechanical Designer
Location:  Minneapolis, MN
Salary:  80-100k

Responsibilities

• Design tooling, fixtures, jigs, gauges, and workholding solutions for manufacturing and assembly processes.
• Create 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and documentation.
• Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering teams to develop practical production solutions.
• Support prototype, pilot, and production builds through custom fixture and tooling design.
• Improve existing tooling to enhance quality, repeatability, ergonomics, and throughput.
• Work with internal fabrication teams and external vendors to bring designs into production.

• Associate’s degree in Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field
• 3+ years of experience designing tooling, fixtures, workholding devices, or manufacturing equipment
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks
• Strong understanding of machining, fabrication, GD&T, and manufacturing processes
• Experience in a regulated industry such as medical devices, aerospace, or life sciences is preferred

• Full-time, on-site position.
• Direct interaction with manufacturing, engineering, and production teams.
• Hands-on role supporting a medical device manufacturing operation.
