Sr Accounting Specialist

Our client a leading manufacturer and distributor serving customers across North America, is seeking an experienced Sr Accounting Specialist to join their team in Ankeny, Iowa on a direct hire basis. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys a variety of responsibilities, thrives in a collaborative environment, and wants the opportunity to make an impact within a global organization.
In this position, you will support daily accounting operations, financial reporting, payroll processes, tax compliance, treasury activities, and internal controls while partnering with teams across Finance, Operations, Human Resources, Customer Service, and Corporate Finance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
- Assist with monthly financial statements, year-end reporting, forecasting, and management reporting.
- Prepare and support reporting requirements for corporate headquarters in Italy.
- Review payroll and employee benefits information to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Support medical compliance activities as needed.
- Coordinate customs clearance processes for incoming products.
- Assist in developing and maintaining internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Support annual audits, budgeting activities, insurance renewals, and tax filings.
- Review and process employee expense reports in accordance with company policies.
- Assist with sales and use tax compliance, reconciliations, and related filings.
- Partner with cross-functional departments to resolve accounting, reporting, and operational matters.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and help implement effective solutions.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Candidates with an Associate's degree and significant accounting experience are encouraged to apply.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience working with ERP systems.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Preferred:
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or multinational organizations.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Oracle JDE, or SAP.
