Our client, a leader in autonomous mobility, is seeking a Model Maker to join their team. As a Model Maker, you will be part of the XOPS Prototype Fabrication team supporting autonomous vehicle prototype development. The ideal candidate will have hands-on additive manufacturing experience, a strong quality mindset, and the ability to communicate clearly with engineers and designers, which will align successfully in the organization.

Job Title: Model Maker (Additive Focus)

Location: Foster City, CA

Pay Range: $62/hour + Benefits

What's the Job?

  • Prepare, nest, slice, and run additive builds on SLA, SLS, FDM, and PolyJet platforms using standard build parameters.
  • Select the right process and material for each part’s requirements, then monitor builds and resolve failures such as warping, adhesion, and support issues.
  • Review CAD models for printability and failure risks, provide DfAM feedback, and make/document minor geometry changes when needed.
  • Perform post-processing and finishing—support removal, sanding, priming, painting, dyeing, inserts, and other steps—to achieve the requested appearance.
  • Assemble high-fidelity prototypes and appearance models by integrating printed parts with CNC-machined, laser-cut, purchased components, and electronics.

What's Needed?

  • BS/BA in engineering, industrial design, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 2–5 years of hands-on additive manufacturing, model making, or prototype fabrication experience.
  • Working knowledge of additive processes and materials (SLA, SLS, FDM, PolyJet) and the tradeoffs between speed, strength, and finish.
  • Experience with build-prep/slicing software such as GrabCAD Print (Stratasys), Materialise Magics, Autodesk Fusion (AM build extensions), or similar tools.
  • Ability to read and navigate CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar), drawings, and GD&T callouts, plus proficiency with precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers).

What's in it for me?

  • Work hands-on every day to transform engineering and design intent into high-fidelity physical prototypes and appearance models.
  • Partner directly with engineers and designers to rapidly turn experimental concepts into physical parts with strong lead times, quality, and cost awareness.
  • Build confidence in your additive workflow—from build execution and DfAM feedback to finishing, assembly, and inspection.
  • Strengthen your end-to-end prototype fabrication skills, including finishing, integration, and quality verification to drawings and finish callouts.
  • Contribute to documentation and lab safety practices while collaborating across prototype fabrication disciplines.

Upon completion of waiting period consultants are eligible for:
