Our client, a critical environments and data center operations organization, is seeking a Critical Facilities Engineer to join their team. As a Critical Facilities Engineer, you will be part of the Critical Environments team supporting day-to-day uptime, incident response, and preventive maintenance across mission-critical facility systems. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on critical facility experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and the confidence to work safely in high-stakes environments—so you can keep systems running and help protect the uptime customers depend on.
Job Title: Critical Facilities Engineer
Location: Charlotte, NC
Pay Range: $36-$40/hr.
Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (12-hour night shift rotation) - 2 on 2 off, then 3 on 2 off; need to be prepared for 12-hour shifts
What's the Job?
- Maintain, monitor, troubleshoot, and repair data center facility equipment to support 100% uptime, including fire/life safety, HVAC and mechanical systems, plumbing, controls, and hot water systems.
- Operate and maintain critical electrical and emergency backup systems, including UPS, ATS, STS, PDU, generators, primary switchgear, power distribution, and transformers.
- Monitor and adjust refrigeration, chilled water, air conditioning equipment, boilers, ventilating systems, water heaters, pumps, valves, piping, and filters to ensure proper operation.
- Record equipment readings, document findings, and make adjustments as needed; respond promptly to alarms and alerts through building management systems.
- Manage work orders using CMMS, support vendor management, handle customer-facing tickets, and follow emergency escalation procedures.
What's Needed?
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- 3+ years of related work experience in critical environments, with hands-on exposure to systems such as UPS and generator/switchgear operations.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; strong technical comprehension for troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively with tenants and contractors.
- Ability to work different schedules, respond to site emergencies, and perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs, working at heights, and using ladders up to 30 ft.
