Our client, Controlled Environments Team is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join their team. As a Laboratory Technician, you will be part of the Controlled Environments Team supporting research and greenhouse operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong sense of responsibility, a detail-oriented mindset, and the motivation to learn and improve processes every day—aligning successfully in the organization.

Job Title: Lab Technician

Location:Johnston, IA

Pay Range:$21

Schedule: 7:30AM - 4:00PM, M-F with rotational weekend work and holidays required (approximately every 8th weekend, 7:30AM - 4:00PM).

What's the Job?

  • Support daily greenhouse plant care, including watering for corn, soybean, wheat, canola, and other crops.
  • Assist with experiments by collecting data, maintaining accurate records, and helping ensure tasks are completed as planned.
  • Help prepare and execute routine plant care duties such as fertilizer mixing and substrate production.
  • Perform routine greenhouse sanitation tasks, including discarding regulated material, while maintaining a professional, clean, and safe work environment.
  • Work in compliance with all applicable standards while contributing to a team culture focused on safety and continuous improvement.

What's Needed?

  • High school diploma/GED required; bachelor’s degree in agriculture, horticulture, plant physiology, molecular biology, entomology, or plant pathology preferred but not required.
  • Two or more years of related experience or equivalent education and experience is preferred.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and follow standard operating procedures, safety protocols, and ergonomics practices.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods and lift 30 lbs minimum; must be able to tolerate repetitive work in a warm, humid greenhouse with pollen present year-round.
